Flashback on Embedded VISION Europe
APIs for Accelerating Vision and Inferencing: an Industry Overview of Options and Trade-offs
Neil Trevitt, Vice President Developer Ecosystems at NVIDIA and President of Khronos Group, gave a talk about how the landscape of SDKs, APIs and file formats for accelerating inferencing and vision applications evolves rapidly.
Low-level compute APIs, such as OpenCL, Vulkan and CUDA are being used to accelerate inferencing engines such as OpenVX, CoreML, NNAPI and TensorRT, being fed by Neural Network file formats such as NNEF and ONNX.
Some of these APIs, like OpenCV, are vision-specific, while others, like OpenCL, are general-purpose. Some engines, like CoreML and TensorRT, are supplier-specific, while others such as OpenVX are open standards that any supplier can adopt. Which ones should you use for your project?

JAI has launched a new generation of prism cameras in its Fusion Series of multi-spectral imaging solutions. The new FS-3200D-10GE and FS-1600D-10GE cameras have two-channel dichroic prisms that divide the incoming light to two precisely-aligned CMOS area scan imagers. One channel captures light from the visible spectrum (approximately 400 nm to 670 nm) and delivers it to a Bayer color sensor, while the second channel directs light from the near infrared (NIR) portion of the spectrum (approximately 740 nm to 1000 nm) to a monochrome, NIR-sensitive sensor. Silicon Software GmbH, manufacturer of frame grabbers and intelligent image processing solutions, has released version 3.2 of its VisualApplets graphical development environment, with a scalable operator for JPEG compression of grayscale and color images, and further developed the automation of the software by a Tcl console and additional features.
The JPEG application with its encoding performance of up to 7.2 GB/s on the current microEnable 5 marathon frame grabber series represents the most powerful market solution. The compact and uncooled Calibir LWIR platform offers outstanding shutterless performance and is optimized for Size, Weight and Power (SWAP). Introducing industry’s first 1.3MP Time-of-Flight sensor
Teledyne e2v announced its new Bora™ Time-of-Flight CMOS image sensor, tailored for 3D detection and distance measurement to support the latest industrial applications, including vision guided robotics, logistics and surveillance.
Based on an innovative 10µm pixel design and incorporating a resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels, the Bora image sensor offers excellent sensitivity and a unique on-chip gated global shutter mode, which enables gating times of up to 42ns.

New embedded vision systems with quad-core processors
Vision Components premiered the first prototype of its latest generation of embedded vision systems offering a substantial performance boost at Embedded VISION Europe in Stuttgart, Germany, on October 24, 2019. The onboard quad-core processor, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410, is clocked at 1.2 GHz. The board camera features a Gbit Ethernet interface, 12 GPIOs, 1 GB RAM, and 16 GB flash memory.
