MIKROTRON –
The Sun’s Surface in Stunning Detail
How High-Speed Helps to Reduce the Effects of Atmospheric Distortion

Located on the Canary Island of La Palma, the Swedish 1-meter Solar Telescope (SST) is the world’s leading facility for high resolution observations of the Sun. It is operated by the Institute for Solar Physics(ISF), which is part of Stockholm University’s department for Astrophysics. Research at the institute primarily aims to gain knowledge about the outer layer of the solar atmosphere, which is dominated by magnetic fields. How do magnetic fields arise? How are they formed and ultimately destroyed or removed from the solar surface? How do they affect the Sun‘s outer atmosphere? How do they give rise to solar storms and the radiant energy that the Sun emits? Case Study
These questions are explored using observational data registered with the Swedish Solar Telescope. The telescope system looks at 60 x 60 arc-seconds of the Sun, which equals 43,320 x 43,320 km on the solar surface. This is an area that is more than three times bigger than the Earth’s surface but represents only 0.03% of the Sun’s surface. Read on…

FRAMOS
Sony Pregius IMX264 and IMX265 –
the simpler versions of IMX250 and IMX252

Framos Press Continuing the trend started with IMX174 and IMX249, Sony releases the first variants of the 2nd-generation Pregius IMX250 and IMX252 – the IMX264 and IMX265 – with functionality targeted but not limited to the intelligent traffic surveillance market.

The two sensors have the same resolution as their predecessors – 3.2 and 5MP – but the major difference lies in the reduced frame rate. The IMX264 can deliver only 35.7fps instead of 89.5fps (@12bpp), while the IMX265 delivers 55.6fps instead of the 118.5fps (@12bpp) of IMX252. The reason for this is the fixed number of four data channels that can be used in the new sensors. Read on …

FRAMOS

MAXXVISION
Low-cost lens alternatives for Sony Pregius™ sensors (IMX249/174)

Maxxvision Press The new Fujinon HF-XA-1 series offers ultra-compact 3MP lenses with a high resolution into every image edge. The lenses are, according to the manufacturer’s data, designed for sensors up to 2/3”, but still achieve excellent results with 1/1.2” sensors as well (e. g. Sony IMX174, Sony IMX249). This makes them particularly competitive lens alternatives for cameras with the new Sony Pregius™ Global-Shutter CMOS sensors (for example the 2.4 Megapixel GigE vision camera from Sony XCG-CG240/C and the 2.3 Megapixel USB3 vision camera from Toshiba Teli BU238M/MC/MCF).
