EMVA News

EMVA Season’s Greetings

Usually at this point one looks back and several interesting aspects of a year get highlighted.
For 2020 it feels like there is only one issue – the global Corona pandemic.
Even extremely important political events like the Brexit scenario and the US elections were dominated by the Corona topic.

But on the other hand a lot has been done throughout this year. Companies found creative solutions in challenging times and we all as professionals learned performing in a virtual and online world. And social work – being profession or on a volunteer base – finally received an increasing attention, in fact already well deserved before the pandemic.

As EMVA we could manage to continue with growing the membership, driving forward the work on global machine vision standards and even introduce special activities like the international survey on the pandemic impact on our Vision Tech Industry.

EMVA’s quarterly survey on machine vision sales in and to Europe after three quarters clearly points towards a significant two-digit negative growth compared to 2019. During the summer months many positive expactations were linked to a strong 4th quarter but now Europe suffers with a strong 2nd pandemic wave.

Despite of the currently challenging situation we are still looking forward to hopefully physical events in 2021 beneficial for our vision community as well as for the users of our technology:

  • Control Vision Talks in Stuttgart, Germany
  • EMVA Business Conference in Sofia, Bulgaria
  • European Machine Vision Forum in Cork, Ireland
  • International Vision Night & Standardisation Booth at the VISION show in Stuttgart, Germany.

We would be excited to meet you and your colleagues at our highlights throughout the year.

The EMVA Board of Directors and the whole EMVA team wishes you and your family peaceful holidays and a prosperous New Year.

Take care and stay well!

IFM – Retrofit your vehicles with collision protection

Forklift drivers need a high level of concentration when manoeuvring in reverse. The camera-based anti-collision system from ifm, which automatically detects persons and obstacles in the rear area of the vehicle, warns the driver and stops the vehicle, if necessary, provides support. The innovation: Existing vehicles can be easily retrofitted with Imagethis plus in safety.

The cold rolling mill Risse + Wilke Kaltband GmbH in Iserlohn produces metal sheets of different thicknesses and qualities. The unmachined steel strips, wound into coils, are repeatedly rolled by means of cold rolls until they have the required material properties. Then saw blades, clutch plates and other metal parts are punched from them. Read more ›

KOWA OPTIMED
New Kowa 1.1″ 24MP Lens Series Optimised for Sony Sensors

Image At the beginning of 2021 Kowa will introduce lenses with a transmission of 400-1700 nm. In this wavelength range, the lenses also have a reduced focus shift.
NIR-SWIR cameras and hyperspectral cameras can precisely analyze the reflection properties of materials over a wide range of wavelengths. This is often used in image processing for material inspection and sorting.
For example, during an inspection in the food industry: appearance inspection of fruit in the visual range and internal inspection at 1400 nm (illumination). Without a VIS-SWIR camera and optics, users may need to adjust the focus by changing the illumination and changing the lens. Read more ›

MIDWEST OPTICAL SYSTEMS
New MidOpt® 450nm Indigo Bandpass Filters

Image Enhance viewing of subjects illuminated by a 450nm blue LED or laser light source.
MidOpt® introduces the BP450 Indigo Bandpass and the BN450 Narrow Indigo Bandpass, two new filters designed for multi-application use.

The MidOpt BP450 Indigo Bandpass Filter is commonly used in fluorescence applications with an emission ranging from (430-460nm). It is suitable for use with LED or laser diodes with higher than normal ambient lighting conditions.

SVS-VISTEK
Small volume top performance: The FXO with nBase-T and 10GigE

Image In the new FXO camera series, SVS-Vistek relies on the new Pregius S sensors from Sony, the powerful nBase-T and 10GigE interface. This very small 10GigE camera with C-mount is characterized by speed and an extraordinary image quality.

The new sensors deliver excellent image quality with a dynamic range of approximately 70 dB. Even with insufficient object lighting, when the camera is operated with a gain > 0, the images of the FXO series images show excellent homogeneity and exceptional quality. The basis for this is, on the one hand, the integrated Pregius S sensor with relatively small pixels of 2,74 x 2,74 µm and, on the other hand, a sophisticated heating concept. The heat distribution in a camera plays a decisive role in image homogeneity. Read more ›
