EMVA1288
Release 4.0 Published

The EMVA Standard 1288 for objective characterization of industrial cameras, which is successfully used worldwide, has a successor in the new Release 4.0, which now takes into account the rapid development of camera and image sensor technology. The release candidate was published on March 16 and the detailed standard texts can be viewed here.

Until the previous Release 3.1 dated back December 2016, the application of the EMVA 1288 standard with a simple linear model was limited to cameras with a linear response and without any pre-processing. While this model is being continued with some improvements in the ’Release 4.0 Linear’, a new module ‘Release 4.0 General’ has been added in the latest release. Read more ›

Top hit rates in bin picking for BENTELER Automotive

Bin picking of metallic workpieces for BENTELER Automotive

At BENTELER Automotive, oily steel components are often gripped, for example for axle systems. Machine Vision must be able to detect their gloss without any problems.
Another obstacle was the boxes to be cleared out, because they are delivered unsorted.

The uneven floor of the load carriers also makes it difficult to distinguish between part and box. Nevertheless, the right parts have to be detected, correctly gripped and deposited in an oriented manner. Read more ›

How Perseverance’s Diverse Set of Cameras Will Perform Science on Mars

The latest rover has 23 cameras to help it navigate the surface of the red planet and perform scientific experiments.

A gentle breeze blowing at less than five kilometers an hour is the first sound that humanity has recorded from the surface of another planet. But the two microphones on NASA’s Mars Perseverance rover are a curiosity, a nice-to-have on a mission with far greater ambitions. The real excitement comes from Perseverance’s cameras.
The rover has 23 cameras. Nine of those are engineering cameras, which monitor the rover and its surroundings, helping determine where it’s going and if there are any hazards inon the way. Another seven cameras were for entry, descent and landing (EDL).

SVS VISTEK goes SWIR with fxo990 and exo990

Image SWIR applications have a reputation for being complicated and expensive. The new cameras exo990 and fxo990 from SVS-Vistek cover an extremely wide wavelength range from the visible VIS to the invisible SWIR range, are inexpensive and as easy to use as normal industrial cameras due to their GenICam interface. The possibility of covering VIS and NIR wavelengths with a single camera allows extremely compact applications.

With the SenSWIR sensor, Sony has developed the new copper-copper bonding (Cu-Cu bonding) technology. With this new sensor technology, the InGaAs boundary layer becomes thinner, which leads to a significant increase in quantum efficiency (in the NIR range almost up to 100%).
