IDS introduces 5-megapixel monochrome USB camera in housed and board-level versions
IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH of Obersulm, Germany, has introduced a compact, 5-megapixel monochrome USB camera which, it says, has an attractive price-performance ratio.
The uEye UI-148xLE-M is available in either a plastic housing (certified as CE-B), or as a board-level variant with or without lens adapter. It is based on a 1.3-cm (0.5-inch) complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) sensor with rolling shutter and 2560 x 1920 pixels resolution quad extended graphics array. Its light sensitivity and excellent level of detail meet the most exacting requirements of development engineers, says the company. Various functions, such as binning, sub-sampling, global start shutter and area of interest (AOI) provide added flexibility. The AOI mode enables up to 120 images per second to be captured.
The plastic housing version, with CS-mount lens adapter, measures 4.4 cm x 4.4 cm x 2.5 cm (W x H x D) and weighs 32 g. The two board-level variants, which are even smaller (one with S-mount lens adapter and one without), have been designed to be integrated into in systems where space is at a premium.
All three variants have a USB 2.0 port and include the firm's software package. The drivers are automatically loaded into the camera after it has been connected. In addition, the software development kit (SDK) supplied with the camera is the same as the one that is offered for all IDS camera models - whether they are based on USB or GigE technology. This saves time and reduces costs, particularly when users switch to a different camera or upgrade to a high-end model. In addition to the drivers the SDK also includes demonstration programs for camera integration and image acquisition, which come complete with the corresponding source code in C, C++ and Visual Basic.
