Leutron Vision adds motorised-lens option to its modular PicSight camera range
Leutron Vision AG has recently begun equipping its PicSight Gigabit-Ethernet and smart cameras with a fully integrated socket that enables them to directly support and use C-mounted and CS-mounted motorised lenses.
Systems available with this new option will be exhibited for the first time at the VISION 2008 show in Stuttgart, Germany, and will be on display on the company's stand (4B17) in hall 4.
According to the firm, which is based in Glattbrugg, Switzerland, this option will enable these cameras to be used in object-tracking systems - for example, permitting a work-piece to be monitored sharply over a large range by making use of the auto-focus function. In addition, they may also find application in traffic surveillance where they can be adjusted easily to suit variable lighting conditions.
Using three H-switches for the aperture, depth of field or the focus, respectively, users are able to select either a positive or negative operating voltage, which corresponds to two directions of movement - for zooming in or out, depending on the function required. The potentiometer positions of the three functions is read precisely by an analogue to digital converter and evaluated by the software. In this way, users are given full control over the motorised zoom lens, and the auto-focus and auto-iris functions.
First launched at the end of 2005, the PicSight series is designed to be flexible and economic. The modular nature of the product enables cameras to be individually tailored to the specific needs of each user, and to be supplied quickly. Application engineers have a selection of 28 different types of sensor from which to choose - either charge-coupled devices in monochrome or colour, ranging from a VGA resolution up to 1628 x 1236 (UXGA) pixels, or complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) devices with resolutions of more than 5 megapixels.
Image data are transmitted via a number of digital interfaces, including Gigabit-Ethernet, Camera Link or USB 2.0.
