Kappa's first CMOS camera is a low-price, high performance system
The Kalypso 023-USB is the first complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) camera series to be launched by Kappa Opto-Electronics GmbH, a German company based in Gleichen that provides cameras and image-processing technology for a wide range of applications in demanding requirements.
Kappa describes this round camera, which uses the Aptina sensor, as a low-price, high performance system. Its strong points include a rugged construction, a high signal quality and a broad operating temperature range of between -20°C and +80°C.
The camera, with global shutter, comes equipped with a USB 2.0 interface and offers a 10-bit digitisation depth at a resolution of 752 x 480 pixels (WVGA). With linear sensor characteristics the camera achieves more than 55 dB, while in the high dynamic range mode it achieves more than 80 dB.
Kalypso can be used for industrial and non-industrial image-processing applications. The camera delivers a reliable performance and a high image quality even for dynamic scenes, under poor lighting and rough ambient conditions, claims the firm. An ultra-compact construction - with a diameter of 50 mm and width of 29 mm - allows it to be used in machine-vision applications in extremely confined spaces, and also in customer-specific designs.
Kappa will be displaying its products on booth 4D01 at VISION 2008, which is being held on the November, 4-6, 2008, in Stuttgart, Germany.
