Dual-module Maestro simplifies the task of connecting together machine-vision components
Canada's LMI Technologies Inc (LMI) is using VISION 2008, which is being held in Stuttgart, Germany, on the November 4-6, 2008, as an opportunity to release its new Maestro product.
Designed to greatly simplify the task of connecting together various components that encompass a machine-vision system, Maestro comprises two parts - the P800 and C12 modules.
The P800 module is the master controller that interfaces encoders and the I/O with a single power supply, delivering microsecond synchronisation, power and safety on CAT5e cables for up to eight or more cameras or light sources. All timing, triggering, synchronisation, sorting and reject activation are completed by this module. All devices are slaves to the P800 controller, including the host computer that performs the image processing. Camera image data are delivered directly to the host computer via standard interfaces - for example, GigE Vision and FireWire - with all timing dictated by the P800 and communicated to the host computer via Gigabit Ethernet.
The C12 module is a camera and light controller that is connected to the P800 using a CAT5e cable, which can have a maximum length of 100 m. It powers and triggers any camera while providing synchronised high current pulses for LEDs or lasers.
The combination of these two modules is compatible with all cameras, light sources, I/O and machine-vision software libraries, enabling virtually any type of machine-vision application - from single cameras to multi-camera web-inspection systems - to be rapidly designed and installed. In addition, Maestro enables LMI Technologies' FireSync, Sensors that See and HexSight components to be integrated with standard camera and lighting components.
A system based on Maestro is configured through TCP/IP and XML, or via a Web browser for stand-alone operations.
