Daimler AG receives VINTEC Award from Vitronic
At this year's International Sheet Metal Working Technology Exhibition, 'EuroBLECH 2008', which was held recently in Hannover, Germany, Vitronic Dr.-Ing. Stein Bildverarbeitungssysteme GmbH presented its 'VINTEC Award' 2008 to Daimler AG for its groundbreaking developments in welding technology.
Through a revolutionary development at its factory in Mettingen, Germany, Daimler has enhanced the process it uses to produce components for drive trains. Weld seams are now automatically inspected and, if necessary, optimised without the component having to leave the production line.
According to Vitronic, Daimler is the first vehicle manufacturer to implement such a complete system for automatically inspecting and optimising welded seams. The concept, developed by Daimler, uses the VIROwsi inspection system from Vitronic and was used for the first time on the rear-axle beam of the new C-Class vehicle. Since February 2007 more than 8 million weld seams have been inspected, say the companies.
This is the first year that the 'VINTEC Award' has been distributed by Vitronic. In the future it will be awarded annually to customers or suppliers which, in cooperation with Vitronic, develop innovative systems that contribute to both companies' practical knowledge and expertise.
