Basler adds C-Mount option to low-cost Runner line scan camera series
Germany's Basler AG has added a C-mount option to its Runner series of Gigabit Ethernet line scan cameras.
This series now also includes six C-mount monochrome models with 1-k and 2-k line scan charge-coupled device (CCD) sensors, and screw-in RJ-45 connectors to ensure tight connections are maintained.
The runner C-Mount cameras feature the well established Gigabit Ethernet interface that is both GigE Vision and GenICam compliant. Basler says that over the past two years the GigE interface in its Scout, Pilot and Runner camera families has successfully proven itself in a wide variety of industrial applications. The GigE Vision standard, simplifies integration enabling camera users to begin seeing results quickly.
Basler's Runner cameras benefit from Gigabit Ethernet's advantages. By using them it is possible to reduce both costs and system complexity compared with products based on components designed for Camera Link. In addition, the frame grabber is eliminated and converter boxes are not necessary. Because each of these components costs several hundred euros, great cost savings can be achieved, says the company. The price of a Gigabit Ethernet cable is also typically lower than that of a comparable Camera Link cable, which reduces the costs even further.
Basler's Pylon driver package supports both GigE and FireWire cameras. The Pylon software development kit (SDK) enables cameras to be easily and quickly integrated into existing systems by providing extensive documentation, and code samples that often can be simply cut and pasted into an existing application. Basler says that its driver technology has been proven in several thousand camera installations over the last year and has gained a well-deserved reputation for robustness, ease-of-use and reducing CPU loads.
