Vision Components' ultra-compact VCSBC4012 nano makes its début at Hannover Messe 2009
Vision Components GmbH's (VC) ultra-compact VCSBC4012 nano made its début at the recently-held Hannover Messe 2009 industrial fair.
The VCSBC4012 nano vision-system is a redesigned version of the small VCSBC4012 single-board camera, which has a footprint measuring 40 mm x 120 mm. By 'populating' both sides of the circuit board with components, VC has managed to develop a smart camera that is even smaller than its predecessor.
A new member of the firm's BoardCam family, the cost-efficient VCSBC4012 nano features a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) sensor that has a 5 megapixel resolution. With its exceptionally small dimensions of only 40 mm x 65 mm, it is one of the smallest vision systems in the world, claims the company, which is based in Ettlingen, Germany.
Like all VC products, the VCSBC4012 nano is a complete machine-vision system on a single board that is able to operate independently. This means that external PCs are no longer necessary. Because of its tiny size, it is ideal for applications where space is at a premium.
VC, which was founded during 1996, develops and distributes intelligent, network-compatible real-time cameras. Equipped with the proprietary multitasking operating system VCRT, the devices operate without an additional PC, making them easy to integrate into almost any industrial facility. Typical application areas include quality and completeness checks, measurement technology and biometric access control.
