Braggins appointed Publicity Officer for UKCPO
Don Braggins, Director and founder member of the UK Industrial Vision Association (UKIVA), has been appointed Publicity Officer for the UK Consortium for Photonics and Optics (UKCPO).
The UKCPO is the lead partner of the Photonics Knowledge Transfer Network and represents the national photonics and optics community, covering manufacturers, researchers, industry, universities and government.
The UKIVA has been a member of the UKCPO for seven years. Other members include the Institute of Physics, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Scottish Optoelectronics Association, the Welsh Optoelectronics Forum, the Photonics Cluster, the Fibreoptic Industry Association, the Association of Industrial Lasers Users, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (formerly the UK's Department of Trade and Industry).
Braggins commented: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to promote the aims and objectives of the UKCPO. There are many parallels between the UKCPO and UKIVA. While the UKIVA has been promoting the use of vision in industry for the past 17 years, the UKCPO has a broader remit. This includes increasing communication between the UK photonics manufacturing sector, research, academia and users and promoting technology transfer, and increasing the understanding and uptake of photonics techniques and equipment by UK industry."
"UKCPO also aims to provide a unified national body to act and speak for photonics in the UK; provide public information on activities in the field of photonics; raise public and media awareness; and act as a central point of contact and information exchange on products and research," he continued.
"The UKIVA has used a variety of techniques to raise its profile significantly over the last few years, and I plan to use this experience to benefit the UKCPO."
