Point Grey expands its industrial IEEE-1394b product portfolio
Canada's Point Grey Research Inc has added a two-port repeater and five-port hub to its line of FirePRO professional IEEE-1394b (FireWire) components. The company, which specialises in advanced digital camera systems, also recently introduced its FirePRO dual-bus IEEE-1394b, low-profile PCI Express (PCIe) card.
FirePRO components are designed to maximise the effectiveness of the imaging pipeline, while minimising the cost of component failure and down time, says the company.
The two-port industrial repeater is described as a reliable and cost-effective unit for extending IEEE-1394 devices beyond the standard 4.5-m cable length. Its ultra-compact metal case, measuring 25 mm x 56 mm x 17mm, makes it ideal for applications where space is limited. The five-port hub also can be used as a cable extender and supports the simultaneous connection of multiple FireWire cameras. The unit's compact (57 mm x 94 mm x 20 mm) metal case minimises the risk of physical damage, and an external power input ensures system stability for large, multi-camera arrays.
Both products incorporate locking nine-pin 1394b bilingual ports and a status LED, and support transfer speeds up to 800 Mb/s.
In other news, the company has launched a dual-bus 1394b, low-profile PCIe card. It incorporates two LSI PCIe 1394b PHY/link open host controller interface (OHCI) chips that enable images to be acquired from up to 16 FireWire cameras simultaneously, and total data throughput of 160 Mb/s, using a single card. It effectively takes advantage of the x1 PCIe serial link to increase throughput and minimise latency, and deep isochronous FIFO's on the host adapter minimise the possibility of data loss caused by overflows. Each card is equipped with two bilingual 1394b ports with a locking screw connection, internal power connector, and both standard and low profile PCIe mounting brackets.
Point Grey recently relocated and expanded its wholly-owned German subsidiary Point Grey Research GmbH. The German office has moved into larger, more modern facilities on the fourth floor of Schwieberdinger Strasse 60 in Ludwigsburg, near Stuttgart. The new office is almost double the size of the previous one located in Munich, says the company. The subsidiary provides sales and support services to customers in Europe, Russia, Africa and Israel.
