Adaptable LED light lines are designed for long-length web scanning applications
Vision Light Tech of Uden, The Netherlands, has introduced a new product platform of high-brightness light lines for long-length web scanning applications.
According to the company, these versatile systems, which use light emitting diodes (LEDs), are designed to satisfy different applications by being adaptable both in terms of the unit lengths that can be used and their output power and controllability.
The LED board is designed to enable the use of different types of LEDs. In standard modules, high-current LEDs are used for the highest intensity and excellent homogeneity in diffuse applications. Alternatively, 'chip-on-board' technology (COB) enables the product to be adapted to high homogeneity requirements in reflective applications. This approach enables the LED board to be tailored to a user's specific requirements. It also allows the systems to be upgraded in the future - to even higher performance LEDs, as and when they become available.
Mechanically, the unit's design uses extruded side profiles that include MayTec profile grooves along the sides of a slim housing. This enables the units to be easily installed on manufacturing lines. In addition, the housing is mechanically stabilised to support longer lengths. The design concept allows scalable lengths from 300 mm up to 3000 mm to be created in steps of 150 mm.
The LED board temperature is continuously monitored to prevent it from overheating and damaging the LEDs. The light lines are protected by a modular heat-sink concept that uses active air cooling for standard or water-cooling for high-end applications, depending on the LED type and operating parameters used.
Each 300-mm segment has an integrated controller unit, connected to the cooling element. The units are governed by a dimmable potentiometer (constant current), or via fast TTL-input (remotely). The LED light line can be triggered externally with frequencies up to 50 kHz, and the light output can be focused using an acrylic lens for adjustable working distances of between 50 mm and 100 mm. At a 50-mm working distance, an illuminance of 400 klx will be achieved at 700 mA per LED, says the firm.
