FireSync platform enables machine vision systems to be developed rapidly
LMI Technologies Inc, which designs and manufactures scalable vision sensor technology for OEMs and system integrators, is creating a complete modular vision sensor platform of hardware and software components under its recently launched FireSync brand.
According to the Canadian company, the FireSync platform solves the classic problem of synchronization between lighting, camera and processing components, and enables a fully scalable design to be developed.
It consists of a number of tightly integrated OEM hardware and software components. These include sensor controllers, camera and embedded sensors, machine-vision software, industrial computers and lighting. The components that are selected can be configured in a number of different ways depending on the application.
The FireSync platform includes a number of machine-vision firsts, claims LMI. For example, the use of high-speed serializer/de-serializer (SerDes) chip-sets enables the sensor controller to offer images of up to four CMOS-camera channels to stream data to the FireSync M200 sensor controller at speeds up to 320 MB/s.
Besides the four different independent camera channels, the system includes support for pre-processing, DSP algorithms and Gigabit networking. The sensor controller precisely controls the camera light and DSP functions. Once de-serialized, image data are transferred directly to host memory, compressed by DSP and transferred to PC systems over Gigabit Ethernet for further distribution and reduction.
The company says that it is developing several new functions to offer with its standard library. These include is a stitching algorithm programmed into the DSP unit of the M200 sensor controller, which grabs both halves of the captured image sequence.
