Portable Motionblitz LTR2 quickly records and stores high-speed video data
Mikrotron GmbH of Unterschleißheim, near München, Germany, is offering a portable system for long-term recording of high-speed video.
Called the Motionblitz LTR2, it can be used, for example, to observe the behaviour of turbulence in fluids and gases, or of fine dust in a vacuum, and for medical diagnostics and motion studies in sports.
According to the producer and marketer of digital cameras, image-processing components, and recording systems for industry, research and development, mobile, long-term high-speed video recording is a useful tool for optimising processes in industrial fabrication and quality control. However, it says that the ability to quickly store the vast quantities of data that are generated is a major problem.
The MotionBLITZ LTR2 portable unit permits data to be stored directly on the system’s hard drive - eliminating the waiting time while data are downloaded. This means that the system is continuously available for a recording time of up to 55 minutes. This is particularly beneficial in costly test series. In such applications long downloads are particularly disruptive and expensive.
The system’s robust housing contains a computer that runs Windows 7 (64-bit), a fast hard drive, MotionBlitz Director2 operating software and a full Camera Link frame-grabber camera interface.
The compact camera (EoSens series) is capable of handling video recordings of up to 55 minutes at a full image resolution of 1696 x 1710 pixels at 120 fps. The option to use data reduction extends the recording time. The integrated, region of interest (ROI) function – with variable layout of the image field in terms of position, resolution and speed – offers recording frequencies of up to 35 000 fps.
The optionally engaged non-linear dynamic adaptation can extract precise image details even under conditions were the differences in light and dark shades are extreme. The full Camera Link interface saves images from the camera in real time. Images can be stored in BMP, AVI, TIF, DNG, JPG, PNG and REC (Mikrotron's own RAW) formats.
The user-interface of the Director2 software has a number of convenient functions, such as the ability to display external data in each individual image. Motionblitz LTR2 is delivered as a ready-to-run, complete system with one compact, high-speed EoSens series CMOS digital camera.
